Mark Yusko is the Founder, CEO and CIO of Morgan Creek Capital Management located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The investment management firm specializing in endowments, pension funds and wealthy individuals. Yusko attended the University of Notre Dame where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors in Biology and Chemistry. He would then go on to attend the University of Chicago where he earned his Master of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance.
Yusko’s career got started when he returned to the University of Notre Dame as the Senior Investment Director. After 5 years, Yusko left Notre Dame for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to become the head of the endowment office. During the 6 years Yusko spent at UNC, he served as the Chief Investment Officer, President and Founder of UNC Management Company. In 2004, Mark left the University of North Carolina in order to found Morgan Creek Capital Management.
Morgan Creek teamed up with Salient Partners, an innovative asset management firm, in order to start The Endowment Fund. The Fund reached approximately $3.5 billion in assets at which point Mark served as Chief Investment Officer for the Fund until Yusko stepped down in January of 2013. In September of 2013, Yusko started a new mutual fund, the Morgan Creek Tactical Allocation Fund, the firm’s first mutual fund for retail investors. The idea behind the retail mutual fund was to bring back long-term total return with a strategy that minimizes volatility. Morgan Creek Capital Management donates a portion of its profits each year to The Morgan Creek Foundation. The Foundation awards grants to non-profit organizations and was given “Non-Profit of the Year” award by Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce in 2011.
